A Super Productive Weekend

It’s amazing how much you can accomplish with a weekend off! I haven’t had a weekend off work (without anything else planned) pretty much since the move. You know, restaurants make all their money on the weekends and all of that. Which meant that while the rest of the world was gearing up for Friday night drinks and “Sunday Fundays,” I was gearing up for a busy work weekend.
This past weekend was my first not working two jobs, which meant it was my first free and unplanned weekend in a looooooong time. Of course, with my unable-to-relax personality, I instead filled the weekend with things I’d wanted to catch up on for quite a while.

I did spend some time relaxing, this time in the form of reading a book on our sunporch. Though Frankie and his crazy tongue were a bit distracting! I also finally was able to get back into cooking and baking, making a fantastic dinner with Brian, drunken coffee jello cubes, and bourbon banana bread. Probably doesn’t help my waistline, but hey, I’ll look for some healthier recipes for next weekend. Although, I did find quite the surprise while chopping up mushrooms for my risotto – a few little mushroom butts! The five-year-old in me couldn’t stop laughing.
I also was finally able to get my seeds for our vegetable garden this summer – our landlord is pretty awesome and gave me the green light to dig up part of the back yard for a small garden. After I get this post up I’m going to get all of my seeds sowed! Gotta love warm Kentucky weather.
An at home manicure was also in order, or really just a new coat of polish. The other amazing thing is how long a mani can last when you’re not washing your hands at a restaurant 500 times a night.
Speaking of washing, I had quite the laundry catch up session. And while the clothes were going for a spin, I scoured the entire house.
Although we’ve been following the cleaning routine I wrote about yesterday, working two jobs these past two weeks has pretty much put all cleaning on hold. It truly is amazing how gross a house with two adults can get in a few short weeks – I can only imagine what life will be like when we have kids. But about two to three hours and several Avett Brothers albums later, and the house is looking much better. Which is good, because Brian’s parents are coming to visit for the first time next weekend!
Of course, with the lovely Kentucky weather, I couldn’t stay inside all weekend. While I didn’t get out as much as I would have liked, I did have a chance to walk The Bug down a perfect little winding pathway through a local forest preserve. I can’t wait to go back out there – maybe on my bike next time!

What were you up to this weekend? And house cleaning or massive laundry sessions? How about vegetable body parts? I can’t wait to see what next weekend brings!
