Knee Surgery Success

As promised, I’m back with a post surgery update! In case it wasn’t obvious from the title above, the surgery was a success. Well, that’s what I keep telling myself, since it makes me feel better about my leg looking like this:

But seriously, my surgeon said he thinks I should be good to go after I recover from the surgery itself. I went in yesterday at 8:45 a.m. and was wheeled into the OR by 10:30. The experience was forgettable (literally). All I remember was that the room was cold, I was asked a bunch of questions, and then they said that the meds work quickly. Next thing I know, I’m waking up in a recovery room. Mercifully, I didn’t do anything silly while coming out of anesthesia. All I remember asking was “Did he find something? Please tell me he found something.”
Turns out, he did. Thankfully, my meniscus wasn’t torn – it was a bit frayed so he cleaned that up. I also was diagnosed with synovitis – basically the inflammation of the synovial membrane in my knee. Long story short, I had a bunch of inflamed tissue that needed to be removed. If you’re not squeamish (or are as big of a medical nerd as I am), here’s the before and after of the inside of my knee!

Isn’t the “after” pretty? Well, as pretty as the inside of a knee could be! So, I’m bandaged up for now – tomorrow I’ll be able to take the bandage off, shower, and rewrap my knee. I go back on Wednesday to have my stitches removed and reevaluate my recovery plan. If all goes well, I might be able to start running (ok, slowly jogging) again in six weeks!
I’ll be back in the next few days with a house update, and some updates on the blog. I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

  1. Thanks, Nena! I'm still feeling really good – here's to hoping that continues!

  2. Thanks, Kanalt! I've been in a bit more pain the last two days, but if this is the end of knee pain while running, it's all worth it!!!!
