2314: The First Weekend

We are homeowners! But wow, this weekend was a whirlwind! We closed right on time Friday morning – papers were signed by 9 a.m. Since we knew we wouldn’t get possession until 5 p.m., we both decided to head into work (well, Brian had no choice and since he had an assignment and since we couldn’t get in the house anyway, I decided to as well).

Our Realtor texted at about 4:45 that the sellers were out and the house was officially-officially ours! We still had to drop off some gear at Brian’s office – then we headed to the townhouse to grab a few boxes and our guest room bed… we both really wanted to spend our first overnight at the house! It was a really cloudy day, but thankfully the rain stayed in the clouds and we made it alright.

The first night was mainly spent dreaming in our new space, and enjoying the obligatory pizza and champagne that has become our new-place tradition. Saturday we ran errands, including two trips to Home Depot. We also narrowed down paint colors and got started on some cleaning. We spent all day Sunday at the house, painting swatches on the walls, getting a LOT of cleaning done, and showing some local friends the new space. There is still SO much to do, but even just being there this weekend gave us a much better idea of a timeline for the month of May. Plus, lots of projects means lots more blogging! For now, I’ll let some photos from Friday through Sunday show you how our first weekend went!

Welcome to our new home!

Someone was a bit tired our first night. Thankfully, we brought a "real" bed, so we both got a good night sleep!

We're going with a grey palate - we have nothing against beige, but EVERY place we've rented was "apartment beige" and most of this house is as well. It's time for a change.

THIS is why I disassemble and clean every inch of a fridge when we move in. Thankfully, this turned out to be the paint they used on the kitchen walls. How it got on the bottom of the inside of the fridge is anyone's guess!

Right when you think you packed everything, you realize you didn't. I did discover that cereal is surprisingly easy to eat with a fork.

Our narrowed down paint picks. The darkest shade is showing up VERY dark here - it is more of a deep blue-grey in person.

One of the splurges of the weekend was an electronic keypad - Brian's parents have one and we've always been jealous of the convenience. Not any more!

A sweet new neighbor brought us some even sweeter goodies. We are so excited to be in an awesome neighborhood!
