Searching for (Summer) Balance

I’ve always struggled to balance life when summer hits. The weather is warm and all I want is to be outside. Even with longer daylight hours giving me more time to be productive, I just want to spend those hours doing something outdoors. Housework goes undone. Indoor projects are reserved for rainy days.

This year seems to be especially difficult – I blame the combination of the new house and RAGBRAI for this. Our project list is longer than ever, ranging from “install new blinds” to “tackle basement renovation.” Yet we’re also trying to fit in as many days outside on the bikes before we attempt to ride across the state. Oh, and our jobs and other obligations. And blogging – I have a million ideas in my head and minimal time to get them to you.

It hasn’t been easy, but we’re making it work. We’ve decided that RAGBRAI training simply has to take priority since we leave in 17 days. Most of our bigger house projects can wait until this fall/winter, or even next spring. We’re also taking advantage of spare time to work on our little projects – we got all of our new blinds hung yesterday when the radar was threatening too much rain for a bike ride.

How do you balance life in the summer? This girl needs to know! Maybe I just need to bring my computer outside and write all the posts that are swimming around in my head…

  1. I feel the same. But I figure that’s what seasons are for. Not just a change in weather, but also our natural rhythms and activities. I try not to beat myself up about it and just enjoy the differences!
