Things i like: family!

Well, more like people I like I suppose. People I don’t get to see nearly as much as I’d like to. While I know that I am lucky to have them in the same country, our lives still prevent us from seeing each other nearly as much as we would in an ideal world.

Last weekend was a wonderful exception. My sister, her husband, and their four kids miraculously had a layover on their train trip from Pennsylvania to Alabama. Why it had a layover in Chicago I have no idea. But I wasn’t going to complain. I hadn’t seen my sister and her kids since October of last year, when I went to visit six weeks after the twins were born. And wow have they gotten big!

I guess they look pretty small still, but you have to realize that they were about this big when I first met them and saw them last:

Anyway, we only had about nine hours together, so we had to make the most of it. We ended up meeting my step sister, brother (and his wife) and their kids at the zoo. Even though the kids barely knew each other they hit it off pretty well.

They were so cute together. Even if Archie wouldn’t cooperate for the picture. She seemed more than willing to cooperate later for a picture of all the kids (mind you, she had just stepped on her baby sister’s hand). So while everyone else looks concerned, she’s posing away!

And a great shot of the older cousins (for the record, my crazy nephew Jackson is indeed wearing a hoodie in 90 degree weather!!!)

It was such a fun day! Despite the heat and crazy schedules, we all managed to have a great time. We even were able to video chat with the brother in Cali who couldn’t make it in! As much as I sometimes hate technology, it was really cool for him to be able to see everyone.

I’m hoping that I can work out my Friday schedule, since my sister’s family has another layover for their return train ride. I’m not getting too excited though since I’m not sure I’ll make it. But fingers crossed nonetheless!

Sorry for the photo-heavy post… I just didn’t think any of my words could capture the day quite like some shots of the kids monkeying around at the zoo. Ironically, when looking through the pictures, I realized I never took a single picture of the adults! Well, except this one of my sister loving on her daughter, baby Lucy:

I don’t think a summer day could have been much better than this 🙂

  2. Ahhh the twins are so cute! I'm glad you got to see your family. Sometimes I don't think you realize how much you miss them until you are together with them again, at least that's how I always feel. xo

  3. @Sandra- Yay! I'm glad you like picture heavy posts since I like taking so many pictures!

@Whit- Aren't they adorable? And yes, I totally agree! I get to see them again tomorrow, and I know being with them will be amazing but will make it just that much harder to say goodbye! 🙁
