100 days until “I do.”

Wow. I can’t believe the wedding is only 100 days away! That may seem like a lot of days, but with how quickly the last several months have flown by, I have no doubts that the big day will be here before we know it. I’ve been joking around that I’m going to wake up and it will already be Jan. 1, 2013 and the wedding will be long past- I’m starting to think this is what will really happen!

We’ve officially kicked planning into high gear- fortunately we have many of the big items done so we are focusing mainly on all of the details. Planning has been a fun yet challenging process, especially since we both work so much and are rarely on the same schedule. But we’re slowly getting everything done. Here’s what we’re up to this week:

  • Invites! We need to get these babies out! Fortunately, we already sent save-the-dates, so at least our guests know when to show up. But I’d really like to get the invites sent at the 2.5-3 month mark… but the three month mark is next week! Hmmmm, I may have to rethink that. But we’re making a lot of progress. We are almost finished with the design, then we just have to design the RSVP cards, and put everything together. We already have the envelopes and packaging so it shouldn’t be too complicated. Nothing that a few hours and a few good movies can’t fix! I’m also almost halfway through addressing and am hoping to finish up tonight. Doing all the design work ourselves has definitely been more time consuming than picking a pre-designed invite, but we love knowing that no one else will ever have our wedding stationery. I just wish I could share all the details with you! I promise, there will be a giant, behind-the-scenes wedding details post as soon as all of the secret projects are finished!
  • Flowers! I’ve known since day one that I was going to be making all of my own arrangements (my mom was a huge gardener, so I’ve learned a lot) so it was just a matter of finding a wholesale florist that I liked. And I think I’ve found her! When Casey (my maid-of-honor) and I stopped by a local French Market a few weeks ago, we met Sandi. She was super nice, and helped select flowers that would go with my main request- Gerbera Daisies. We’ve emailed back and forth a few times since then, and I plan to visit her at another market this weekend so we can make some mock up arrangements in the mason jar vases we’ve been collecting. From there, she’ll be able to provide me with an accurate estimate, and we’ll be able to book!
  • Bathrooms! Haha, this is definitely the oddball, but something that certainly needs to be considered with an outdoor reception. Since the reception is at Brian’s parent’s home, we knew we would need to erm, supplement their bathrooms so we don’t have 150 guests swamping the two toilets. In fact, we’d prefer that they didn’t go inside at all. Fortunately, Brian’s dad (a custom woodworker) just did some work for a gentleman who just happens to rent upscale portable bathrooms as part of his business. How lucky are we? And how crazy is is that the standard port-o-potty has gotten so fancy? Seriously, the “trailer” we are renting has air conditioning, music playing, six stalls (three each for men and women) oak stall doors, and pedestal sinks! So although $800 is a bit of a splurge, it’s the details like these that we think will make guests realize that we thought of everything.
  • Honeymoon! Yes, we STILL haven’t booked our post-wedding escape. We’re pretty sure we’ve got it narrowed down to Costa Rica or Belize, but we just can’t get any closer to making a decision. It doesn’t help that the part of Costa Rica we were falling in love with happens to be in the middle of their rainy season in the middle of our honeymoon… so we’ll see! I’m still determined to go on our honeymoon right after our wedding (I don’t know why, it’s just always been something important to me) so I guess we’ll see what happens!

Although we’ve got a million other things on the to-do list (like rings, vows, wedding cake, decorations, etc) those are the big ticket items for this week. Unfortunately, Brian is photographing a conference this weekend, so we really have to push to get a lot of it (especially invite design) done before then. Hopefully we get the design finished before the weekend, so I can get them printed Saturday or Sunday. Then I can sit and put them all together. Fortunately this time around I splurged on the envelopes that seal themselves, so hopefully the process goes much faster than our save-the-dates!

This weekend will be full of flowers, paper, and postage- you know I’ll keep you updated on our progress!

  1. If I recall correctly (and I could be wrong), but is the standard for invites 6 weeks before the event? That just buys you a little more time is all. But if having an earlier deadline is the push to get them done, maybe sooner is better. 😉 I can't wait for the reveal on all these things!

  2. Yeah, I think they keep changing it. Everything I have read says between two and three months. Three months seems a bit extreme- we'll probably go with around 10 weeks.

But since we've invited more people than we can technically fit in our reception tent, and we have quite a few estimates that depend on the guest count, we want to know asap how many we have coming.

Not to mention it'll help when it comes to buying plates, silverware, napkins, etc. since we are doing it all ourselves!
