After almost nine months of searching and 27 job applications, I can finally say I have a full time job! I don’t think I could possibly be more excited or more relieved.
The whole process started last May when Brian and I thought there was a pretty good chance we were moving to Virginia. After two job applications were submitted our plans changed, so I simply moved my search down with us to Kentucky. I (naively) thought the search would be simple – I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Twenty-seven applications later, and I have finally secured a job. Of course I’ve been waitressing part time to make ends meet, but I am so incredibly grateful to leave that behind and move on to a full time career.
These last few months have been some of the most challenging of my life – I never really realized how much of a toll a job hunt can be. Not only is it time consuming (it’s really a full time job in itself) but it’s also emotionally draining. Between rejection letters or not hearing back at all, it is incredibly easy to feel your sense of self worth go down the drain. Brian has been an excellent motivator and I really can’t thank him enough for being by my side even when I was at my lowest points.
But, my new job starts tomorrow! And I get to help students who are on their way to a new career and a better life for themselves, so I really couldn’t ask for much more. Of course, this also means a whole new schedule, and of course some organizing and planning. I’ve even got a few work related posts in the works (pun intended) including a what’s in my workbag post and maybe something on whatever planning system I come up with!
In the meantime, I’m just going to try to get used to a new job on a new schedule. The first two weeks will be pretty brutal, as I’ll be a the new job all day then head over to the restaurant for a night shift. Sleep is overrated, right?

Awesome! I spent a few years as an Admissions Rep. at both a Jr. college and a university. Fun job! Word of warning…registration IS INSANE!! LOL

Yes, it seems like it is a pretty fast paced environment, but I'm loving it so far!!!
Congrats on the new job and on not having to look anymore. I went through that about 4 years ago and it was AWFUL. You're so right about it taking a toll on your ego. Wow! I hadn't looked for a job for a LONG time and I had no idea it was going to be so hard. I ended up quitting my job and going back home full-time. After I quit, I got two job offers. But I decided home was the right place for me.
I hope you love your new job and get to catch up on your sleep soon.

Not hearing back is one of the worst things about looking for a job. I hate it!
