Winter in Chicago this year has been anything but white. Rainy, yes. Unseasonably warm? Definitely. Since we’ve faced a particularly un-snowy holiday season, I decided to make a snowflake of my own.
I’ve been wanting to try thread crochet for a while now. But, the tiny thread and hook was just so intimidating. I finally decided to take the plunge last week and picked up up a ball of size 10 thread and a miniscule 1.5 mm hook. After a few moments of frustration, this is what I ended up with:
It’s hard to tell from the picture, but this little guy measures under 3 inches from tip to tip. In the process I’ve fallen completely in love with thread crochet and hope to have a bunch more snowflakes done for our Christmas tree next year. Now I just need to practice blocking (using fabric stiffener, pins, and cardboard to “harden” the piece) so they are more durable and can be used as ornaments.

Beautiful! I wanted to make some crochet snowflakes this Christmas, but I didn't get round to it. Still working on my crochet blanket.
Ha ha ha – time for anything this holiday season. Oh how I wish. 😉 Oh well. These will look lovely on your Christmas tree next year – very nice!
